🎓 How It Works: Your Path to a Texas Driver’s License
Whether you’re a teen just starting out or an adult seeking independence on the road, The University of Driving makes the journey to your license smooth, supported, and confidence-filled.
📘 TEENAGERS (Under 18)
Step 1: Complete a 32-Hour Classroom Course
• Choose our online Teen Driver Ed course (State-approved, TDLR-compliant).
• Earn a DEE-964 certificate marked for “Classroom Instruction.”
Step 2: Get Your Learner’s Permit
• Schedule a DPS appointment for a vision and written knowledge test.
• Bring your DEE-964, VOE (Verification of Enrollment), birth certificate or passport, Social Security card, and two proofs of Texas residency.
Step 3: Begin Behind-the-Wheel Training
• Complete 7 hours of in-car driving instruction + 7 hours of observation.
• Track and log an additional 30 hours of practice driving (10 at night).
• Receive a DEE-964 certificate marked for “Behind-the-Wheel Instruction.”
Step 4: Complete the ITTD Course
• Take the free Impact Texas Teen Drivers course.
• This is mandatory before any road test.
Step 5: Schedule Your Road Test
• Book a certified third-party road test with us.
• Bring your learner’s permit, DEE-964, ITTD certificate, and completed log sheets.
Step 6: Get Your License
• Return to the DPS with your sealed envelope from the road test.
• Parent or guardian must be present.
• Get your provisional license on the spot!
📗 ADULTS (18+)
✅ Ages 18–24
Step 1: Complete a 6-Hour Adult Driver Ed Course
• Enroll in our online ADE-1317 course for fast, affordable training.
• Print your completion certificate.
Step 2: Get Your Learner’s Permit
• Schedule a DPS appointment for your vision test.
• Bring your ADE-1317 certificate, ID/passport, Social Security card, and two proofs of Texas residency.
Step 3: Take the ITAD Course
• Complete the Impact Texas Adult Drivers (ITAD) course online — required before your road test.
Step 4: Schedule Your Road Test
• Book your certified third-party road test with us.
• Bring your learner’s permit, ADE-1317, and ITAD certificate.
Step 5: Get Licensed
• Submit your sealed test envelope to the DPS.
• Leave with your new Texas driver’s license!
✅ Ages 25+
Same process as 18–24, but the 6-hour course is optional unless you’re unfamiliar with the rules. However, you must still complete:
• Vision test
• Knowledge test (if not waived)
• ITAD Course
• Road test
